But wait: Are you also considering the new 2024 Honda CR-V? Take a look at our compact SUV comparison to see which model comes out on top.

Honda CR-V vs. Toyota RAV4

Performance and Utility

2024 Toyota RAV4 Off Road

Whether you’re driving to work, picking up the kids from school, or heading off the beaten path, you’ll want an SUV with all-wheel drive so you can cruise confidently, no matter what lies ahead. Both the new 2024 Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V can be equipped with all-wheel drive.

The CR-V comes with an in-line 4-cylinder engine with turbocharger that is capable of producing 190 horsepower and 179 pound feet of torque. Its available 4-Mode Drive System includes ECON, Normal, Snow, and Sport modes. In contrast, the RAV4 comes with a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine that can produce up to 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Its available Multi-Terrain Select system offers a variety of drive modes: MUD & SAND, ROCK & DIRT, SNOW, NORMAL, SPORT and Eco. With more drive modes available, the RAV4’s performance can be more precisely tailored to specific terrains and conditions.

Planning to tow with your SUV? Certain 2024 Toyota RAV4 configurations can tow up to 3,500 pounds.* The CR-V’s maximum towing capacity is only 1,500 pounds.

Comfort and Convenience

When choosing an SUV, it’s important to pick one that makes every journey easier and more enjoyable. After all, you’ll be spending quite a lot of time behind the wheel! Both of these models have seating for five and come with an array of comfort and convenience features, including an available hands-free power liftgate and a standard 60/40 split reclining fold-flat rear seat.

2024 Toyota RAV4 Cargo Capacity

Wondering about entertainment and navigation? These SUVs are both compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The largest available touchscreen in the CR-V is nine inches in size, while the RAV4 has an available 10.5-inch touchscreen display. With a larger touchscreen at your fingertips, you’ll have an easier time selecting music, inputting your destination on a map, or adjusting your vehicle’s settings to your liking.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Automotive technology isn’t just there to guide you and keep you entertained — it plays a vital role in keeping you safe, too. The Toyota brand prioritizes safety above all else, continually working on new ways to protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. The Toyota Safety Sense™ system in the RAV4 is full of features that will help you stay alert and aware on the road, and the CR-V has some similar capabilities. Both models come with a lane-keeping assistance feature, automatic high beams, and a road sign identification feature, among others.

When it’s time to park your SUV, both models have available parking sensors to help you back up safely. However, you can upgrade the RAV4 to include a Panoramic View Monitor with 360-degree Overhead View and Curb View,^ an innovative feature that allows you to get a bird’s-eye view of your car from above, plus a view of the curb if you’re near one. Imagine how much easier parallel parking will be with this in front of you! The CR-V does offer a standard Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Dynamic Guidelines,** but it doesn’t provide the same overhead view.

*Never tow beyond a vehicle’s published towing capacities. Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. Installation of a tow hitch receiver or other accessories located near the rear bumper may require disabling or removing the kick sensor, and the sensor operation setting in your vehicle should be turned off. Follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual.

^The Panoramic View Monitor does not provide a comprehensive view of the area surrounding your vehicle. Look around to confirm clearance. See Owner’s Manual for limitations.

**Always visually confirm that it is safe to drive before backing up; the rearview camera display does not provide complete information about all conditions and objects at the rear of your vehicle.

Fall is the perfect time to start checking up on your car. The weather isn’t entirely too cold yet, the holidays are still a ways off, and you aren’t facing any severe weather conditions. This season is prime for getting out in the garage or scheduling service and bringing your car to our service centers in Nashville to get everything checked out. Get ready to sightsee the beautiful Tennessee views here in Clarksville and beyond in your Toyota and review our fall car-care tips below from Wyatt Johnson Toyota!

Ten Fall Car Care Tips To Follow

  1. Checking and Refilling Fluids, Especially The Oil: Checking your fluids can play a crucial role in keeping your Toyota performing at its absolute best, and during the cooler months you don’t need anything less. Taking a look at your oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid and refilling or changing any that need it is a great way to prepare your car for the winter months ahead. Also, checking your antifreeze/coolant is an absolute must, as that will keep your engine from getting too cold should the temps drop. Check when your Toyota is due for its next oil change and make sure you get the filters changed as well. That way your brand-new oil stays new for as long as possible!
  2. Inspect All 4 Tires and Brakes: The quality of your tires is just as important as that of your brakes. If your tires are worn down, they’re not going to do you much good in snow or rain. Make sure to not only check the tread but also their pressure. Tires tend to lose pressure when the temperature drops and changing a flat in 30-degree weather isn’t fun. If you really want to future-proof yourself, getting a good set of snow tires or all-season tires will be greatly beneficial. Shop for the perfect tires for your car and get a tire rotation or replacement here! Replacing your brake pads and rotors is an essential part of your fall car care and even winter prep. Bring your Toyota to our service center in Clarksville and get the ultimate in brake service and repair.
  3. Test The Battery: Being able to rely on your battery during the colder months can be a huge weight off your shoulders. So be sure to check the charge and quality of your current battery. If it’s been more than three years, it may be time to replace your car’s battery completely. Visit our service center and we’ll be able to set you up with a brand-new battery just in time for the winter months.
  4. Tighten Your Hoses And Check Your Belts: Making sure your antifreeze and fluids are all topped off is great, but it won’t do you any good if it can’t reach your engine. If your hoses have any leaks or breaks, there’s a good chance you’ll overheat your engine when the cold weather hits and your engine has to work overtime to keep it warm. Hot summer months can severely degrade the belts in your engine. When checking under the hood, you should look for any signs of excessive wear, fraying, cracks, or looseness. Be sure to give your hoses a good look over and tighten any that seem loose.
  5. Test Your Exhaust: Checking your exhaust system as part of your fall car care checklist could actually save your life. If there’s a leak in your exhaust, carbon monoxide could seep into your car. Not only that, but a damaged exhaust system can also result in lower mileage. Keep on the lookout for weird noises, smells, a vibrating gas pedal, or a rumble when your car is sitting still. All are signs that your exhaust system is damaged. Our Toyota-certified technicians will look for rust, holes, leaks, and other damage that may be present during our inspection.
  6. Pay Attention to Steering and Suspension: You want to be in complete control of your Toyota in the event of bad weather. Making sure your power steering and suspension are up to par is the best way to remain in control at all times. If you’re worried, our team can take a look at your shock absorbers, struts, and chassis to see if anything needs adjusting or replacing.
  7. Replace Your Wipers: Did you know that the quality of your windshield wipers actually factors into your yearly inspection? That’s because if your wipers are leaving heavy streaks on your windshield, you will not have very good visibility. And visibility is essential in any type of inclement weather.
  8. Wash Your Car: This may definitely seem unnecessary, but hear us out for a second. Cleaning your car of all the summer mildew and dirt can help prepare it for what’s coming. Waxing your car can also protect it from snow, ice, and salt. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to regularly clean your car after it snows. Ice and salt can accumulate and erode certain components of your undercarriage if left on for extended periods of time. While not as immediately important as other tips on your Fall car care list, it won’t hurt.
  9. Clean Your Headlights: Between dead bulbs and cloudy headlight covers, there’s enough to check to warrant this being on your Fall car care list. Your headlights do two things out on the road. They help you see what’s in front of you, and they help other drivers see you. Make sure both of these functions are unimpeded by checking your bulbs and cleaning your headlight covers.
  10. Pack Roadside Kit: If the unfortunate happens and you have car issues or slide on ice or snow, having a pack of supplies to fall back on is a great idea. Some things that should be in your roadside kit include an ice scraper, jumper cables, a flashlight, blankets, bottled water, non-perishable food, and a first aid kit. You can never be too careful. That’s where ToyotaCare can come in handy. Get peace of mind with 24 hour roadside assistance on your new Toyota!

Stay On Top of Your Fall Car Care

If you follow this fall car care checklist, you’ll be more than prepared for when the colder months roll around. And if there’s anything you need to replace or you can’t check out yourself, you can always make Wyatt Johnson Toyota a part of your winter car prep by scheduling an appointment with our service center in Clarksville. Plus, you can save big with our service specials! Make sure you prepare your car for fall and winter with the experts at Wyatt Johnson Toyota!

Two new 2023 Toyota Highlanders embark on a road trip through the mountains.

Summer is here, and it’s the perfect time to hit the open road for an exciting adventure with your loved ones. Whether you’re planning a scenic drive through the countryside or an epic cross-country journey, getting your new Toyota (or whatever you drive) ready for the summer road trip is essential to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. To help you prepare for the long drives and hot temperatures, we’ve compiled five essential tips to make sure your car is road-trip-ready.

  1. Get a Multipoint Inspection: Before the start of any road trip, it’s crucial to schedule a thorough checkup with a service team you can trust. They can inspect your car’s engine, brakes, tires, cooling system, and other critical components to ensure everything is in optimal condition. Addressing any potential issues before hitting the road can prevent breakdowns and costly repairs later. Additionally, don’t forget to check and replace the oil, coolant, and transmission fluid levels, as well as topping off other essential fluids.
  2. Inspect and Rotate Your Tires: Your car’s tires play a vital role in ensuring a safe and comfortable road trip. Inspect the tire tread and sidewalls for any signs of wear or damage. If the tread depth is approaching the minimum recommended level, it’s time to replace your tires. Additionally, ensure that the tire pressure is set to the manufacturer’s specifications. Properly inflated tires not only enhance fuel efficiency but also reduce the risk of blowouts. Consider rotating your tires before the trip to ensure even wear and prolong their lifespan.
  3. Check the Air Conditioning System: Driving in scorching summer heat without a functioning air conditioning system can be unbearable. Before setting off, test your car’s air conditioner to ensure it’s blowing cold air consistently. If you notice any issues or a lack of sufficient cooling, it’s essential to have it inspected and repaired by a qualified technician. A comfortable cabin temperature will make your journey much more enjoyable, especially during long drives.
  4. Clean and Organize the Interior: A clutter-free and organized interior can significantly enhance your road trip experience. Start by giving your car a thorough cleaning, both inside and outside. Vacuum the carpets and seats, wipe down surfaces, and make sure to remove any unnecessary items from the trunk or back seats to free up space. Consider investing in car organizers to keep essential items easily accessible during the trip.
  5. Pack an Emergency Kit: No matter how well-prepared you are, unforeseen situations can still occur. Be proactive by packing an emergency kit that includes essentials like a first aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables, basic tools, a tire repair kit, and extra coolant and motor oil. It’s also wise to carry a fully charged power bank for your electronic devices and a map or GPS system in case you venture off the beaten path with limited cellular coverage.

A Toyota engine

Strange engine noises can be early warning signs of potential problems that, if left unaddressed, may lead to costly repairs or even engine failure. In this blog post, we will explore five concerning engine noises and discuss what they could indicate. Being aware of these sounds will help you identify the issue promptly and seek professional assistance from a dealership you can trust like Wyatt Johnson Toyota’s Service Center! Visit us today in Nashville if you hear one of these noises below!

A picture of a car making noises.
  1. Squealing or Screeching Noise:

If you hear a high-pitched squealing or screeching noise, especially when starting your vehicle or accelerating, it could be a sign of a worn-out or loose serpentine belt. The serpentine belt plays a crucial role in powering various engine components, such as the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. A damaged or loose belt can affect the functioning of these components, leading to diminished performance and potential breakdowns.

2. Knocking or Pinging Sound:

A persistent knocking or pinging noise while your engine is running can indicate a problem with the combustion process. This sound is often associated with improper fuel ignition, commonly referred to as engine knock. Engine knock can be caused by various factors, including low-quality fuel, incorrect ignition timing, or carbon buildup inside the combustion chamber. Ignoring this noise may result in engine damage over time, so it’s crucial to address it promptly.

3. Rattling or Tapping Noise:

If you notice a rattling or tapping noise coming from your engine, particularly when idling or accelerating, it could be a sign of a problem with the valve train. The valve train consists of various components, such as valves, lifters, and pushrods, which control the flow of air and fuel into the engine’s cylinders. A loose or damaged valve train can lead to poor engine performance, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential internal damage.

4. Grinding or Whining Sound:

A grinding or whining noise that increases with engine speed might be an indication of a failing or worn-out bearing. Bearings are used throughout the engine to reduce friction and ensure smooth operation. Over time, these bearings can wear out or become damaged due to factors like lack of lubrication or excessive heat. Ignoring this sound may lead to severe engine damage, requiring costly repairs or even engine replacement.

5. Hissing or Sizzling Noise

If you hear a hissing or sizzling noise coming from your engine, especially when it’s hot, it could be a sign of a coolant leak. Coolant is essential for regulating engine temperature and preventing overheating. A leak in the cooling system can result in coolant loss, leading to engine overheating and potential damage. It’s crucial to address a coolant leak promptly to prevent more extensive engine issues. When you’re in for service, our technicians can check your system while replacing your fluids.

How does leasing differ from owning a vehicle?

So you’re ready to upgrade to a new Toyota, but you’re unsure which choice to make between leasing and owning. Don’t worry. We have you covered! Let’s go over the benefits and differences between each so you can make the best decision!

The Benefits of Buying A Car:

Many people prefer to buy rather than lease as they gain full ownership of the vehicle. They view buying a car as an investment because the ability to eventually sell your car down the road allows them to recoup some of their costs. That freedom to do whatever you want after you buy your car is the main perk! W

When you own a car, you are free to decide when to buy, sell, or trade-in for a new one. If you lease a car, you must keep it until the contract is signed, and you have many guidelines and rules to adhere to. When you return a previously leased car, you will almost always be asked to pay the remaining lease payments in full.

Plus, if you want to personalize any aspect of your car, whether it’s new paint, a new stereo system, different headlights, etc., buying is the way to go. Once you buy the car, what you do with it is your choice!

The Drawbacks of Buying A Car:

Buying a car may not be the ideal option for you if you’re someone who gets bored with your car easily and wants to constantly upgrade to the newest cars on the road. It’s simply not cost-effective to buy a new car and try to upgrade within a year or two. You’ll lose way too much money in the process, because a new car depreciates as soon as you take it out of the parking lot. The lower a vehicle’s resale value, the longer you’ll keep it. People who buy cars are more likely to keep them than those who rent them. Plus, you’ll be responsible for all repairs after the warranty has expired, which can get expensive quick.

The Benefits of Leasing a Car:

People who love change and want to see the latest and greatest innovative technologies for the newest cars on the road should consider leasing a vehicle! Manufacturers are constantly improving navigation and assisted driving technology for your comfort and convenience. You can drive the best cars on the market for a few years and then upgrade to a newer model when the lease expires. Plus, you’re not stuck with driving your lease. You can simply return the car and save yourself the hassle of selling it if you don’t want to upgrade.

Another benefit is that many leasing programs include free maintenance for a period of time. When routine maintenance is required, the expert technicians at your service center can ensure that your car is working at its best, all free of charge to you. Even if your leased vehicle does not include a service plan, new vehicles are cheaper to maintain because they have fewer problems with wear and tear. Auto loans and leases usually have lower monthly auto payments.

The Drawbacks of Leasing a Car:

One considerable disadvantage of leasing is that you have to adhere to the rules and regulations in your lease agreement. Major damage to the car, such as severe dents, scratches, or internal damage, could cost you a lot. Plus, if you have a busy travel schedule, a major disadvantage is that you have to limit the number of miles you can travel as leases have mileage restrictions. It’s easy to stay within the allotted miles just driving to work and running errands, but if you want to take road trips or vacations, you could be breaching your mileage agreement, which you will be penalized for financially.

Additionally, after the lease expires, you will no longer own the vehicle. So instead of paying off a loan, you’ll have spent all of your money simply renting a car. For some people, that’s ok, but if you want your money to go towards inevitably owning something, leasing probably isn’t for you.

Conclusion

There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to leasing versus owning a car. It all depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you want the freedom to make changes to the vehicle and don’t mind the higher monthly payments, buying may be the way to go. If you want lower monthly payments and don’t mind adhering to mileage restrictions, leasing may be a better option. Ultimately, the decision is up to you!

Our most recent involvement with the Clarksville Civitan Club was sponsoring their 2022 Scavenger Hunt at this year’s River Fest. The fundraiser offered a chance for participants to explore and discover local businesses, support their community, and of course, win a prize of $10,000 and $250 cash drawings, all for a great cause. That great cause is a scholarship worth $8,000 for one lucky Austin Peay State University student, with which the Civitan has a long-standing relationship, with many of their current members also being alumni of APSU.
